Sensory Bags!

Everyone loves sensory play! And these two sensory bags were not only super-fun to put together but my children LOVE them!

We fell in love with sensory bags a few weeks ago, my son has some tactile issues were trying to work through, (more on that later) and these have been super helpful lately! Plus my daughter who is developmentally on track loves them as well! (Basically they’re good for all kids!!)

So how’d I do it??

Let’s start with the Soapy Glitz and Glam Bag! (Left)

  • Clear Ziploc type bag (I prefer using the Press and Seal style, not the zippers)
  • Scissors
  • Clear Packing Tape
  • Shower Gel/Translucent Shampoo
  • SEQUINS! Any variety!
  • Tulle Scraps (optional)

Step One:

Squirt the shower gel into the bag. You don’t need a whole lot, just cover the bottom of the bag in about 1.5″ of it.

Step Two:

Add your sequins! As few or as many as you’d like!

Step Three(optional):

Cut your tulle scraps into small shreds (no bigger than 1 inch) and add them to the bag!

Step Four:

Squeeze the air out of and seal the bag. Then use your packing tape to tape the bag closed as well!

TaDa! You’re finished!

Ooey Gooey Monster Bag! (top picture, right)

  • Clear ziploc type bag
  • Scissors
  • Clear Packing Tape
  • Hair Gel
  • Tiny Craft Pompoms (asst colors, you can use different sizes as well)
  • Yarn shreds
  • Googly Eyes (asst sizes)

For this bag, I put the yarn on the bottom then added some hair gel (just a small amount). Then I layered half the pompoms, another squirt of hair gel, googly eyes,  the remaining pompoms, and topped it off with one final squirt of hair gel!

Then you just squeeze out the air, seal the bag, and secure it with packing tape!

The great thing about sensory bags is you can fill them with almost anything! The goal is to get your child to experience all sorts of new textures! Personally, I think the monster bag is very visually stimulating as well, and it’s a big hit with kids!

What do you put in your sensory bags? Do you let your children help make them? Is there any other theme you’d like to see done? Let me know!
